For the Faculty of Maritime studies first contact with International projects was through projects METHAR and CAMET in the 4th European Framework Programme (FP4). Later, it was followed by participation in a number of projects financed by the European Community Programmes (FP5, FP6, FP7, Tempus and IPA CBC).

Faculty of Maritime Studies activities on international projects are conducted by implementation and participation of academic and other staff in projects related to the management and organization of maritime transport and sustainable transport in general as well as in the improvement of education in the field of Maritime Affairs. Until now Faculty of Maritime Studies and its employees were involved in 25 international projects.

Faculty of Maritime Studies is currently applicant organization on the project Avoiding Collisions at Sea (ACTS) and project partner in the European project TRECVET Core Curriculum for Skippers of Small Commercial Vessels (TCC-SCV), Erasmus+. ACTS project is financed by European union programme Life long learning programme, subprogramme Leonardo da Vinci, Transfer of inovation (TOI). Also, Faculty is involved as consultant on two projects funded by EU, BALMAS - Ballast Water Management System for Adriatic Sea Protection, and INTERMODADRIA- Supporting intermodal transport solutions in the Adriatic area.

Also, Faculty of Maritime Studies expects results from sveral projects submitted to the ongoing programs of the European Union and it is currently preparing for the structural and regional funds. 

In the forthcoming period, the main goals of the institution are intensive development within the EU and other international programs and increment of all faculty employees’ involvement in the work of international projects. The stated follows strategic guidelines of the University of Rijeka, with the aim of greater involvement in the European Research Area and the area of ​​higher education through active participation in international, professional and scientific projects.
